Applied Research at GPRC

ResearchersThe College is NSERC (2007), SSHRC (2012) and CIHR (2012) eligible and is Tri-Council Certified for both Human Subject and for animal subject applied research.    It has been Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) eligible since 2011. The College has a well-established Animal Care Committee and continues to hold Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Certification for its Animal Health Technician program.  A Memorandum of Agreement with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada for collaboration at the Beaverlodge Research Farm was signed in April 2010.  This collaboration has led to two major developments:  the National Bee Diagnostic Centre (operational since Fall 2012) and the formation of the Ag, Food & Fibre Applied Research Network (since March 2012) with GPRC as the lead. The CRI led the development of the Alberta Rural Organic to Resources Network (AROWRN) with Natural Resources Canada - Canadian Wood Fibre Center, the University of Alberta, northwest and north-central Municipal Governments and industry partners.

GPRC has held NSERC Round 5 College and Community Innovation Program funding for its Pollutants to Products (P2P) initiative since November 2010.   A $150,000 ARTI Grant (micro-algae harvester) and additional College based resources has enabled GPRC to complete its Carbon Capture Solarium (summer 2012).  It has already hosted one SME for product testing (Sept 2012).  GPRC continues to conduct research for the region’s forest companies (since 2000) and has now extended that into reclamation research on behalf of the oil-sands industry (with OSLI since 2010).

GPRC under the leadership of the CRI provides: applied research facilitation services to faculty, students and innovation clients; resources the Research Planning  Committee; and is responsible for the Research Ethics Board.  Additional research capacity includes: Neuroscience Laboratory and faculty led research projects for self and community partners.
